>>>>sub missing <<<<

Quote :
A sound detected by sensors hours after an Argentine submarine sent its last signal was "consistent with an explosion", a navy spokesman said on Thursday.

A search operation has been under way since contact with the submarine - with 44 sailors on board - ceased on the morning of November 15.

Concern for the crew has increased as oxygen supplies are running low. Experts say the ARA San Juan had enough oxygen to last seven to 10 days.

You may recall  that we had the Faulklands war  nearly 35 years ago  and we now have our aircraft landing over there  for the first time since that war to help to help the Argentinians to find their missing sub

The problem  with the Argentinian sub appears ,for the helpers, to be the delay of the Argentinians to ask for help in the search

These reports from various newspapers some what demonstrate the  seeming reluctance of the Argentinians to seek help from those who are willing and prepared to give it
>>>missing sub<<<
Did the sub suffer a catastophic failure ; was an emergency beacon sent out... Question

As one paper says

' Relatives have expressed concerns about the  Argentinian navy's  initial response; ''they took two days to accept help''; said  Frederico  Ibanez, brother of crew member Cristian Ilanez'

What we can hope is that the search will be successful although  some reports of hearing an explosion  are  worrying Sad

There are 'suggestions' that the submarine was not fit for purpose' which, if  accurate,  could well be a  contributing factor in this  matter

>>>sub  aged and not fit for the seas <<<

It’s practically suicide to send them out in something so old,” a female relative is heard telling the president in the video. “Couldn’t you invest the state budget in trying to buy a new submarine? You’re playing with the lives of our people. Does someone have to die for things to change?”

The UK Ministry of Defence said on Wednesday that an RAF aircraft had landed in Argentina to help with the search efforts. The MoD said the British military plane, which took off from Brize Norton in Oxfordshire, is packed with three tonnes of equipment, including 12 deep emergency life-support pods.

HMS Protector, a Royal Navy ice patrol ship that arrived on Sunday, was deployed to the vessel’s last known location, and used its sonar equipment to search below the waves for the missing sub.

An RAF C-130 has also joined the search following an offer of assistance, and members of the specialist Submarine Parachute Assistance Group are also offering expert advice.

HMS Clyde, an offshore patrol vessel that was returning from a patrol to South Georgia, has also assisted with the search efforts.

Has any of this been verified? study

and this
>>>the search will continue<<<

MAR DEL PLATA, Argentina — Argentina’s president said Friday an international search will continue for a submarine carrying 44 crew members that has been lost in the South Atlantic for nine days and that the sub’s disappearance will be investigated.

The Argentine navy says an explosion occurred near the time and place where the submarine went missing on Nov. 15 as it was sailing from the extreme southern port of Ushuaia to the coastal city of Mar del Plata. That’s led some family members of the crew to give up hope of a rescue. Navy officials and outside experts also worry that even if the sub is intact but submerged, its crew may be running out of oxygen.

“The disappearance and current search of the ARA San Juan submarine has touched all Argentines. It’s a difficult moment for all, but obviously, especially for the families of the 44 crew members,” President Mauricio Macri said in his first public comments about the missing sub at the navy’s headquarters in Buenos Aires.

“I’m here to guarantee you that we will carry on with the search, especially now that we have the support of all the international community.”

As with any incident that may require the help or assistance of 'international parties', as you can read on the links, various countries have  offered and supplied the necessary tools and expertise to help the search for the vessel ; I believe it is called 'Maritime care ' and in an emergency situation  ( such as this), country's differences are 'set aside 'to deal with the 'bigger picture '....

I believe they intend to continue the search' for as long as it takes' to locate what they can and maybe  raise the wreckage , discover what caused the  problem and make appropriate plans for all involved study

Of interest

>>>What may have gone wrong and sub did surface<<<

>>search will continue<<

I'm here to guarantee you that we will carry on with the search, especially now that we have the support of all the international community." More than a dozen airplanes and ships have been participating in the multinational search across an area of some 185,000 square miles, which is roughly the size of Spain. The Argentine navy said Friday that Russia is sending an Antonov transport aircraft and a ship in the southern Patagonian port of Comodoro Rivadavia is being adapted to carry a U.S. Navy submarine rescue chamber. They will focus the search efforts on a smaller area where the explosion was recorded. The ARA San Juan, a German-built diesel-electric TR-1700 class submarine, was commissioned in 1985 and was most recently refitted in 2014. "No one goes out to sea knowing that they can lose their life," said Ramon Francisco, who was part of the crew that first brought the sub from Germany to Argentina in 1985. "It was a reliable submarine." The sub was originally scheduled to arrive Monday to a navy base in Mar del Plata, about 250 miles southeast of Buenos Aires. Local residents prayed for the crew's return during a religious ceremony outside the base Friday. Some relatives of the crew who have gathered there fear that their loved ones will no longer be rescued. wrote:

>>>Water caused battery to short circuit>>>

But I read

Before its disappearance, the submarine had been ordered back to its Mar del Plata base after it reported water had entered the vessel through its snorkel, causing a battery short circuit, navy spokesman Enrique Balbi told a news conference. “They had to isolate the battery and continue to sail underwater toward Mar del Plata, using another battery,” Balbi said. wrote:

Why did it have to stay underwater if it knew it had problems? Question

Surely you  surface and stay on the surface  if you know you have problems ???

>>>Argentine navy ends search<<<

Quote :
At the height of the search, 28 ships and nine airplanes scoured the sea, backed by more than 4,000 people over a search area of more than 15,000 miles off the Argentine coast.
Eleven countries joined the searching including Uruguay, Chile, Brazil, Peru, the United States and United Kingdom.
Few clues point to the submarine's fate, but in recent days authorities have released more details of what's known to have happened before it vanished mid-way on its journey from Usuaia in the country's south and northern port of Mar del Plata.

Balbi wouldn't speculate on the fate of the crew, but said the search for the missing sub will continue until it's found."

At least they say they will continue to search until they find what is left of the submarine Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Arrow
